Coffee Cup granted liquor license

In an open meeting last Wednesday evening, Coffee Cup Fuel Stop representatives Toni Nickleson and Curt Erikson answered questions about the planned liquor retailer within the existing convenience store, for which the company applied for the liquor license formerly held by Hoppers Emporium.

Of significant concern was adequate separation between the two areas of business; Erikson, though, assured council that the segregation will be with locking doors and a glass wall.

"I was going to put a temporary wall up, but I think the best measurement will be to just wait to get the whole thing done...I'd love to be open tomorrow, I'll be honest with you, I really would," Erikson admitted, "But we've got to do it right."

The representative told council of "two or three security cameras" that will be installed with a monitoring system stationed within view of the on-duty clerks.

Said clerks will also have undergone Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) as well as other yearly classes to ensure they are aware of their obligations to the law and welfare of those who walk through the doors.

Erikson declared, "We will not sell to somebody obviously intoxicated...and for our spirits, everybody's going to be carded...I don't take chances with minors."

Erikson was asked about signage warning people that consumption of alcHe answered, "We can add it, we don't have it now, in the plans...Even though our license will allow it, we're not going to allow it. With that being said, there's nothing we can do about people opening it in their vehicle, but at the end of the day, we're going to monitor it very well."

With no further discussion, the open meeting was adjourned and the council approved the transfer of the liquor license from Hoppers Emporium to Coffee Cup Fuel Stop.

Coffee Cup hopes to open the doors to their liquor store within the next couple of months and once open, the hours of operation will be 6 a.m. until midnight.ohol would not be allowed on site.
