No doubt about it, this year's 58th Moorcroft Jubilee celebration jumped up a notch with events starting Thursday evening and running through Sunday afternoon. Regardless of where one looked during the weekend, there was action.

According to Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) volunteer and co-organizer Krissy Hinkhouse, "Attendance was up across all events again this year, from both rodeos, the volleyball and cornhole tournaments, the goat roping, parade and everything in between."

Around 200 kids visited the Adventure Zone over the weekend and a spokesman for the band, "He Said She Said" reported an increase in the number of participants at the street dance Saturday night as well.

At Friday's vendor show, 11-year-old Kaleiha, Zaccari with friend and business associate 12-year-old Addison were among the merchants at Robinson Park, setting up their summer lemonade stand on Yellowstone Avenue, taking advantage of the pedestrian traffic in and out of the park and out of the way of the food trailers on site.

The young entrepreneurs have been doing business since May and plan to continue for the remaining warm months of this season and hope to open again next year.

Friday's Ranch Rodeo, though, got off to a slow start with some confusion about an available auctioneer for the calcutta and how the "Star Spangled Banner" was to be presented, but, with humor and help, the confusion was cleared up and the evening progressed with no other apparent upsets, except for riders of sheep and one horse.

Saturday arrived with a warm sun and a Chuckwagon Breakfast in front of the Texas Trail Museum before the day really got started with the parade.

There were 46 participating entities in the line up; of those, several imaginative and fun floats were seen and much candy given out to youngsters behind yellow safety tape. The first, second and third place winners of Best Float were West Texas Trail Museum, Coffee Cup Fuel Stop and the Uncle Sam Yellow School Bus respectively.

No time for a breath as a second impromptu volleyball court was established at Robinson Park to facilitate getting through all the matches in a timely manner and the cornhole tournament was very popular again this year.

The second event at the rodeo grounds was the Riverside Bronc Ride with 20 contestants and eight stray gathering teams.

Another new team opportunity this year, was the Three-man Golf Tournament at the Keyhole Country Club; the event hosted 14 teams and awarded winners with game money as well as a share of the Calcutta. All participants enjoyed the five-hour event.

As Jubilee weekend began with Family Fun Night Thursday evening, so it ended with Slip n' Slide Kickball and Fun Day Sunday afternoon. This closing event was held at the lower baseball field at Westview Park and guests in attendance held on to the playful atmosphere throughout the rest of the day as the final hours of the 58th Jubilee arrived.
