Keyhole hosts Lanter Fest

Keyhole State Park celebrated the last days of an eventful summer with Lanternfest Saturday. Guests enjoyed the kayaks and fishing as evening fell on the beautiful wet day.

The event was organized and led by interpretive ranger Emma Jones, with her friends from other park duties putting the 40 paper lanterns together and turning on the flame free lights within before handing them over to the increasing crowd of participants as dark came over the lake shore.

A few campfire songs were sung as kids began eating the sticky but delicious s'mores fireside; Daniel Sisniros was one of the first to take a bite of the treat.

Jones expressed her plan with this and the other activities she and her associates have introduced this season, "We're just trying to get people out here to enjoy the lake." She was not too worried about the wet conditions stopping people from participating in this event, "As long as it's not pouring rain, we should still be able to launch [the lanterns]."

After the lanterns were cast away, any that beat the waves bringing them back to shore, were picked up by those attendants waiting in kayaks.
