Police respond to report of shots fired, assures there is no active threat

On September 25 at approximately 8:32 p.m., the Moorcroft Police Department was dispatched to the 400 block of North Yellowstone for a report of a woman heard screaming and then two shots fired.

Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and did not locate anyone in the immediate area. Additional officers and deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office as well as troopers from the Wyoming Highway Patrol were called in and a perimeter was secured. Officers conducted an exhaustive search of the immediate area and surrounding areas.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated as a precaution and prior to arrival asked to stand down as no threat was found. A CodeRED was sent out in an overabundance of caution to make sure residents were aware of the Police presence and to make sure people were safe. At approximately 12:30 a.m. the area was declared clear, and no threat was found to be in the area.

At approximately 2:50 a.m. September 26, the Moorcroft Police Department was dispatched to a report of gunshots being heard in the 400 block of North Little Horn. Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and patrolled the area again, we were unable to locate anything suspicious and at approximately 4 a.m. officers cleared from the call.

There is currently no active threat to public safety.

The Moorcroft Police Department appreciates the cooperation of the public and thanks them for their assistance as law enforcement worked to comb the area looking for possible suspects. We would also like to thank the other agencies involved.

I would like to remind citizens in town to please remove valuables from your vehicles, lock them and lock your residences as well.
