Busy week for MHS volleyball

The Lady Wolves had a busy week of volleyball, traveling to Wright on Friday and hosting the Newcastle Dogies on Saturday. Our freshman team started off Friday on the right foot, splitting sets with the Panthers, scoring 16-25 and 25-21.

The Wolves played hard and made some great gains throughout the game. The junior varsity Wolves wouldn't go down without a fight and came out just short of the W, taking Wright to three sets.

Game scores were 19-25, 25-22 and 20-25. Some great lessons were learned on the court, which the girls will take into the rest of the games this season.

The varsity girls came short of the win against the Panthers, going down, 13-25, 14-25 and 18-25. Despite the loss, the Wolves put up their best efforts with 11 kills, six blocks and 42 digs against the Panthers.

After a morning of bonding over a team breakfast, our Lady Wolves took on Newcastle at home with a gym packed full of fans. The freshman girls came out ready to play, beating Newcastle in two sets with scores of 25-11 in each game.

It was a great chance to try out some new skills and fine-tune other aspects of the game. The freshman team is a force to be reckoned with and will be fun to watch for years to come.

Our JV team also took Newcastle in two sets, winning 25-20 each time. After noticing our ability to block and dig, we talked Newcastle out of a lot of hits and ultimately outplayed them mentally. The JV girls have come a long way this season and we are confident that they'll improve even more by November.

Since the first match of the season, the Wolves knew that they were evenly matched against the Dogies, always playing pretty closely with each other. This proved true again on Saturday, with a lot of long, hard-fought rallies, lasting upwards of five minutes.

The varsity girls started their game playing tough, but unfortunately, fell to Newcastle, 24-26 in the first set.

Our Lady Wolves had a great first set, with 12 kills and two aces. The Wolves fell short in the second and third sets to Newcastle with scores of 19-25 and 14-25.

Although the scoreboard didn't show in our favor, some great things happened on the court, including 6 aces, 22 kills and 64 digs. Juniors Elise Kuhbacher and Talia Vargas each contributed five kills, while Junior Tana Timberman had three aces and Senior Natalee Scribner led the Wolves with 14 digs.

Moorcroft Volleyball is ready to take on Big Horn for their homecoming games on Friday, September 29, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. On Saturday, September 30, they'll travel to Dayton to face the Tongue River Eagles at 12:30 and 2 p.m. The Lady Wolves look forward to your continued support this season!
