Basketball season starts off with a busy week

MHS Boys

Nick Redden, Wolves basketball coach, says of the first games of the year, “In Burns, we played four games. We played against Burns, Thermopolis, Lingle and Tongue River; all very solid opponents across the board…We came out 0-4 - We had a tight one against Burns and lost in overtime.

“Our JV ended up playing three games. I have 13 kids, they’re just awesome to be around and they work harder than most kids I’ve ever seen. When it comes down to it, there’s a lot of learning done.

“The older kids are really being leaders and showing what is expected. We had to have some younger kids come into those varsity games very early and they completely surpassed my expectations. They came in, they did the job they needed to do. They were positive and worked hard.

“We have a very good group of boys, who are solid basketball players and we haven’t played our best basketball yet.

“Our goal all season is just to be respected and I think we’re working on that. Teams know we’re going to be competitive and we’re working for that first regional game. We are going to surprise some people this season.”

MHS Girls

Lady Wolves basketball coach Mike Albertson comments on the first games of the season, “This is a ‘young’ group of girls in terms of playing together, but we also have a good number of girls who have not played very much basketball. So, our goal this weekend was to put into place the things we have been working on in this short season, make some notes and continue to build from there.

“There were a lot of firsts this weekend, with a lot of good energy in both the Varsity and JV teams. We also have plenty of groundwork to do before regionals roll around. I was pleased with the girls’ efforts over this entire weekend, and am excited to see where these girls go from here. Four games in three days to start the season is not an easy task, but they fared pretty well, given some bumps and bruises.”
