Wolves wrestle into new season

The Wolves wrestling team started their season this past weekend in Cheyenne, at the Charlie Lake Duals on Friday, followed by the varsity girls and JV tournaments on Saturday.

There, they faced very tough competition wrestling against 27 teams from all around Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado and Montana.

Friday was the dual tournament where the Wolves went undefeated in the black pool, winning all five of their duals.

The team wrestled five rounds of duals to place first. The dual results were:

Moorcroft vs. Torrington: 48-22

Moorcroft vs. Burns/Pine Bluffs: 72-9

Moorcroft vs. Douglas: 51-28

Moorcroft vs. Laramie: 51-17

Moorcroft vs. Fort Collins: 47-28

In individual and tournament stats for the Wolves, Wyatt Allred tied for first with scoring the most team points in the duals with 30 points and placed seventh for having the most pins in the least amount of time with four pins in 3:35.

Saturday was the start of the varsity tournament, individual results were:

106 Danner Wiseman and 120 Kade Haynes went 1-2 for the day, both making it to the consolation round 2; 120 Dayne Humes and 138 Braydnn Terry went 2-2, with Braydnn making it to the consolation semifinals; 144 Wyatt Cook went 3-2, losing in round two and making his way back to the consolation semifinals; 150 Trenton Sheehan went 3-1, losing his match in the semifinals to move into the placings, where he won in sudden victory overtime by decision 7-5; 150 Trenten Gray went 1-2; 175 Braizyn Humpal went 2-2, losing in the semifinals and his third-place match; 215 Wyatt Allred 2-2, won his first two matches with pins, lost in the semi finals to put him into the placings, where he lost to place fourth; 285 Oliver Gorsuch went 3-1, winning his first two matches by pin, lost in the semifinals and won his placing match to place third.

As a team on the varsity side, the Wolves placed eighth out of 27 teams. High scorers were Oliver Gorsuch with 19 team points followed by Trenton Sheehan with 17 points and Wyatt Allred with 15.

Results for the JV tournament:

140-144 Shane Hannah went 3-1 placing first; 152-154 Riley DeHaven went 4-0, pinning three of the four matches and placed first; 155-156 Brady Garoutte went 4-0 and placed first; 158-161 Truck Lowry 1-3 placed fourth; 161-164 Marcus James 2-2, winning with a pin and by major decision to place third; 173-178 Spencer Cuthrell went 4-0, winning with three pins and a decision to place first; 282-296 Elyott Gorsuch went 3-0 to place first.

100-105 Cayson Phillips went 1-3, placing fourth; 108-110 Caden Cantu 2-2 placed third; 119 Weston Haskell 4-0, winning three with a pin and one by tech fall to place first; 126-128 Adam Cuthrell 3-1, winning two by pin and one by decision to place second; 131-133 Kyler Summers 1-3, placed fourth; 138-141 Hayden Amende went 4-0, winning three by pins and one by decision to place first; 142-143 Walker Allred 0-4, placed fifth; 144-149 Jacob Anderson 3-1 to place second; and 174-183 William Greathouse went 0-4 to place fifth.

For the JV tournament, Elyott Gorsuch scored the most team points with 20 for the Wolves and for the tournament as a whole. Shane Hannah tied for fourth in the tournament with the most single match points with 16 and Weston Haskell placed third in the tournament for the most tech falls in the least amount of time.

The girls opened up their season on Saturday with six Wolves wrestlers. Their individual results were:

110 Olivia Sundstrom went 1-2; 115 Daytona Hannah 2-2, winning her two matches by pin and making it to the consolation round 3; 115 Rebekah Anderson went 4-0, winning all her matches with a pin and placing first; 120 Kaylee Buckner 0-4; 130 Nadia Harding 2-2, winning her two matches by pin; and 135 Tessa Farnsworth went 1-2.

With only six girl wrestlers, as a team, they placed 12th out of 17 teams. In individual stats for the tournament, Rebekah Anderson placed fifth for the most pins in the least amount of time with four pins in 5:14 and tied for first for the most team points with 28.

Next up for the Wolves wrestlers is the Pat Weede Memorial Tournament this Friday and Saturday, in Gillette, at the Cam-Plex, starting at 10 a.m., on Friday and 8:30 a.m., on Saturday. They will also be wrestling in the Wright Tournament on Saturday, in Wright.
