Wolves conquer at home

The Wolves wrestling team hosted their home dual and senior recognition last Thursday night and then traveled to Greybull over the weekend to compete in the Greybull Memorial Dual on Friday night and the tournament on Saturday. There, they came away with placing first as a team on the varsity side and second place on the girls' side, four champions and many placers.

Dual scores on Thursday night were:

Moorcroft JV versus Rapid City Central - 24-4

Moorcroft Girls versus Newcastle Girls - 24-15

Moorcroft Varsity versus Rapid City Central Varsity - 42-26

Individual placers for the Greybull Memorial tournament were:

Champions: 113 Dayne Humes pinned his way into the finals where he won by decision, 3-0 to place first; 132 Braydnn Terry won with a tech fall, 17-2, then, pinned his way into the finals, where he won with a pin to place first; 138 Trenton Sheehan pinned his way into the semifinals, where he won by major decision, 14-2 to advance into the finals, where he won by decision, 10-6.

Second Place: 138 Wyatt Cook went 3-1, pinning his way into the finals, where he lost by decision; 144 Trenten Gray pinned his way into the finals, where he lost to place second; 150 Riley DeHaven went 3-1, winning with a tech fall, 19-3 and a pin to put him in the finals, where he lost by decision; 190 Wyatt Allred went 3-1, pinning his way into the finals, where he lost by fall to place second; 215 Oliver Gorsuch, 2-1, pinning his way to the finals, where he lost a tough, close match in sudden victory overtime, 5-7 to place second; 285 Elyott Gorsuch went 2-1, winning his semifinals match with a pin to advance into the finals, where he lost to place second.

Third Place: 132 Shane Hannah went 4-1, losing in the semifinals and wrestling back to the placings, where he won by major decision, 12-4 to place third. 165 Marcus James went 2-2, winning with a pin and major decision, 12-0 to place; 175 Spencer Cuthrell, 2-2, won both his matches by pin.

Fourth Place: 120 Kade Haynes, 4-2, lost in the quarterfinals and wrestled his way back through to the placings, winning all his matches by pin, where he lost to place fourth. 126 Cole Cantu went 3-2, pinned his way to semifinals, where he lost to move him into placing. There, he won his consolation semifinals match with a pin but came up short in the placings, where he lost by decision, 0-4, to place fourt;. 157 Chayce Buckner, 3-2, won all his matches by pin, losing in the semifinals to move him on the consolation side, where he won to go in for placing, where he lost by decision, 4-8, to place fourth.

106 Danner Wiseman went 1-2; 106 Caysen Phillips, 0-2; 106 Caden Cantu, 1-2; 120 Weston Haskell, 2-2; 126 Cade Williams, 3-2; 138 Hayden Amende, 1-2; 144 Jacob Anderson, 2-2; 150 Brady Garoutte, 3-2; 157 Truck Lowrey, 3-2.

On the JV side:

First Place: 126 Adam Cuthrell went 3-0, winning by decision, 9-4 and two pins; 132 Kyler Summers went 2-1 in a round robin, winning his matches by pins.

Fifth Place: 144 Walker Allred.

As a team, the Wolves placed first out of thirteen teams with 205 points over second place Thermopolis with 171.5 and third place Lovell with 86.0 points. High Scorers for the Wolves were Braydnn Terry with 27.5 team points followed by Trenton Sheehan, Wyatt Cook and Wyatt Allred.

On the girls' side, as a team, they placed second with 59 points under first place Lander with 66 and over third place Wind River with 53 team points. Individual results were:

First Place: 110 Rebekah Anderson went 4-0, winning all her matches with a pin.

Second Place: 120 Nadia Harding went 2-1, winning with pins; 130 Tessa Farnsworth went 2-1, making it into the finals, where she lost to place second. 235 Krizma Delfino went 0-2.

Third Place: 125 Kaylee Buckner went 1-2.

Fourth Place: 110 Olivia Sundstrom, 1-3.

High scorers for the girls were Rebekah Anderson and Tessa Farnsworth with 18 team points followed by Nadia Harding with 14. Individual statistics for the tournament were Rebekah Anderson placed first for having the most pins in the least amount of time with four pins in 12:31.

Girls' head coach, Brent Anderson stated, "The girls are starting to put things together and it showed this weekend with bringing home the second-place team trophy."

Next up for the Wolves wrestlers is the girls will dual in Gillette at Campbell County High School on Tuesday, at 7 p.m., the team will compete in the Powder River Conference Duals on Thursday, in Sundance, starting at 11 a.m. and then, they will head to Saratoga for the Carbon County wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday.
