Wrestlers dominate at regionals

The Wolves wrestlers had a great weekend of wrestling at their regional tournaments to qualify for the upcoming state tournament this weekend. The girls wrestled in Torrington, taking four wrestlers and qualifying three and the boys wrestled in Tongue River, taking 23 wrestlers and qualifying all 23.

The girls had one champion, two placers and placed tenth as a team. The boys had six champions, many placers and placed first as a team.

Girls

Champion - Rebekah Anderson pinned her way into the finals, where she won with a pin in 0:47 to place first.

Third Place - Nadia Harding lost in the first round and wrestled her way back into the placings, winning all her matches by pins. She then won her placings match by major decision, 15-5 to place third.

Eighth - Tessa Farnsworth went 2-2 to place eighth.

Daytona Hannah went 1-2.

As a team, the Lady Wolves placed tenth out of 25 teams with 52 points. They will head to the state tournament this weekend with wrestling starting on Thursday, February 22, at noon, at the Ford Event Center.

Boys

On the boys' side for the 2A East Regional tournament, the Wolves as a team came away with the championship. Individual results were:

Champions - Danner Wiseman pinned his way into the finals, where he won by major decision, 8-0 to win his first regional championship; Dayne Humes pinned his way into the finals, where he won by pin to take the championship and his third time as a regional champion; Braydnn Terry went 4-0, winning all his matches by pin to take the championship and his first regional championship; Trenton Sheehan went 4-0, pinning his way into the finals, where he won by decision, 6-4 to take the championship and his first regional championship; Wyatt Allred pinned his way into the finals, where he won with a pin to take first and his first regional championship; Oliver Gorsuch pinned his way into the finals, where he won with a pin to place first and get his second regional championship.

Second - Shane Hannah went 3-1, winning with a pin and by decision to advance into the finals, where he lost to place second; Trenten Gray went 3-1, pinning his way into the finals, where he lost to place second; Riley DeHaven went 3-1, pinning his way into the finals, where he came up short, losing by decision; Chayce Buckner, 3-1, pinned his way into the semifinals, where he won by decision, 10-7 to advance into the finals. There he lost by fall to place second; Marcus James went 3-1, making it into the finals, where he lost by decision, 2-7; Elyott Gorsuch went 2-1, losing in the finals to place second.

Third - Kade Haynes went 3-1, losing in the semifinals and wrestling back into the placings, where he won by pin to place third; Spencer Cuthrell, 3-1, won all his matches by pin, losing in the semifinals and wrestling back to the placings, where he won to place third.

Fourth - Cade Williams went 4-2, losing in the quarterfinals and wrestling his way back to the placings, winning with a pin and by decision, where he lost to place fourth. Wyatt Cook went 3-2, winning all his matches with a pin, he lost in the semifinals, won his consolation semifinals and had to injury default his placing match to place fourth.

Fifth - Place- Caysen Phillips went 2-2, Caden Cantu 2-2, and Cole Cantu 2-2.

Seventh - Brady Garoutte went 2-2, losing in the semifinals by decision, 6-4 and in the consolation semifinals by decision, 7-9.

Eighth - Weston Haskell, Jacob Anderson went 3-2, and Truck Lowrey went 3-2.

As a team, the Wolves placed first with 274 points followed by second place Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast with 223 and third place Upton with 106 points. High scorers were Dayne Humes with 28 team points followed by Braydnn Terry and Trenton Sheehan with 26 and Danner Wiseman with 25. Next up is the state tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the 22-24th, in Casper, at the Ford Event Center, starting at noon.
