Moorcroft woman charged with endangering a child

On January 31 at around 11:35 p.m., a Moorcroft Police Department officer responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving Carrol-Liyne Marie-August Maul.

On scene, the officer met with Maul and found the second person had left the residence. The officer found that it was a verbal argument with no physical contact and cleared the scene.

At around 2:17 a.m., dispatch advised the officer that the second individual had returned to the apartment and was beating on the door, wanting to get inside to gather their items.

As the officer responded, he was advised that the individual had fled the scene. The officer was not able to locate the individual’s vehicle.

The officer returned to Maul’s apartment. He observed the bedroom window was broken.

Maul allegedly stated that the individual had been banging on the door wanting the drugs he believed she stole. According to court reports, she stated that they were both “struggling adults” and that she was scared for her safety and that of her child.

The officer advised Maul to leave the apartment and stay with a trusted friend. Maul allegedly said there was something she wanted to give the officer that belonged to the individual.

The officer advised Maul that, if there were drugs in the residence, she would be charged as they were in her possession at the time. Maul allegedly responded that she was fine with that and just wanted to get herself and her child to safety.

The officer was invited to retrieve a small bag, which he believed to contain methamphetamine. Test results confirmed this and revealed the amount to be approximately 2 grams.

Because there was a child in the residence at the time, Maul was charged with endangering a child in her custody through exposure to methamphetamine, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of five years of incarceration, a $5000 fine or both.

Maul also faces misdemeanor charges of possession and endangering a child from a second incident on March 1, after an officer pulled over a vehicle for allegedly speeding at 52 mph in a 30 mph zone.

When the officer made contact with the driver, she appeared “extremely agitated”. Two children were present in the vehicle, one of whom the officer recognized from finding him alone in the Coffee Cup parking lot earlier in the month.

The driver, who was still visibly upset, informed the officer that she had woken up to find the two children knocking on her door because Maul had gone to work.

The children were taken into protective custody. The officer looked through the apartment and discovered trash, rotting food and piles of dog feces.

A number of drug-related items were also discovered, including white powder residue and what appeared to be marijuana.
