Early morning fire destroys family home

At approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Moorcroft Volunteer Fire Department was called to a structure fire of a family home and attached garage at 414 Park Street.

By the time the firemen got there, reported incident commander JD Davis, the house and garage was full engulfed and could not be saved. Sundance and Pine Haven firefighters also assisted with the blaze.

The family of three had escaped and left the scene before first responders arrived.

Firemen had to employ air tanks to breath in the overwhelming smoke as they ensured the complete extinguishment of the fire. Personnel without said protection were kept well back to prevent injury of inhalation as the fog kept the smoke low and dangerous. Neighbors were also evacuated until the smoke had cleared and debris was contained.

Davis explained that the state fire marshal will arrive shortly to investigate the cause of the fire.
