Breaking bread

Last Saturday, local bread bakers at Coffee Cup Fuel Stop used 300 pounds of flour to make 91 loaves of bread to be donated, helping individuals and families have enjoy homemade bread free of charge.

With the increasing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the nation and wages at risk due to the quarantines, Heidi’s Deli is doing what they can to help. Company president Jenee Naples has initiated a “Share the Loaf” contribution event at many locations, including Moorcroft.

She started the effort in Denver recently and a video of the process was sent to the Moorcroft store to be reproduced. Heidi’s manager Amanda Knipp created a video of the local bakers working for this effort which will be sent, in turn, to Auburn, ME, teaching that store to accomplish the same kind of results in their neighborhood.

Staff baked almost 100 loaves in total of ciabatta, wheat, light rye, marble rye, sourdough and pumpernickel to donate and Knipp provided larger families with a bit more, explaining, “If there were three or more with problems working, I would give them a bag of hoagies or bagels along with a loaf of bread.”

Knipp plans to organize one more Share the Loaf event on Saturday, April 4, starting at 9 a.m. with 50 loaves to be given away.
