Lady Wolves open season with howling success

On Friday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Pine Bluffs to take on the Lingle-Ft. Laramie Doggers in the opening game of the season. Moorcroft got off to a quick 13-0 start before the Doggers got back into the game.

The Wolves led 40-25 going into the half. We came out a little slow in the second half and allowed Lingle to get back into the game.

In the fourth quarter, the Wolves locked down on defense and held the Doggers to only three points and won the game 72-43. It was a good first game for the Wolves. I thought we did some really good things and things we can improve on.

The Lady Wolves had a quick turnaround and played the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets later that evening. Going into the game, I was somewhat concerned about our stamina but the team came out firing. I thought our defense was really good and keyed our offense.

The Wolves took a 46-31 halftime lead, but the second half found neither team able to gain much ground. The game was back and forth with the Lady Wolves prevailing in the end with a 66-52 victory.

I really felt that our energy and effort were really good in the second game of the day. The girls responded really well and got after Pine Bluffs on the defensive end.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Torrington to take on the Lady Trailblazers. We knew going into the game that we were going to have our work cut out for us.

They had three girls over six feet tall and we don’t have a lot of height on our team so we knew we would have to out-rebound and outwork them. The Wolves pressure stymied Torrington at times and took a 32-25 lead into the half.

We made some adjustments at halftime with our zone and our full court pressure. The Lady Wolves continued to do the little things and found themselves on the winning end, 65-53.

The Lady Wolves junior varsity team got a convincing win over Lingle-Ft. Laramie in their first game out and dropped a close second one to Pine Bluffs by two points before coming out on the short end against Torrington.

I thought the team had a good first weekend. There are some things that we need to adjust and improve on, but the girls show up and work hard. Coach Hulm and I don’t have to ask them to give more effort because they all show up ready to work. The Lady Wolves return home on Thursday when they face the Glenrock Herders at 5 p.m. If you are unable to get a ticket due to the 100 max spectator, join in and watch at nfhsnetwork.com.

Thanks for supporting your Moorcroft Wolves!
