Mat Masters clean up around the landfill

Around 40 young Moorcroft Mat Masters with group overseers Justin and Ashley Heather joined with Councilman Ben Glenn working for more than five hours along Wind Creek Road north of Interstate 90 to the landfill Monday, cleaning up the plastic bags and other flying refuse that litters the ranch land south of the municipal facility.

More than 100 large garbage bags were filled and returned to the landfill by the end of the day’s work, according to Glenn.

Mayor Dick Claar said of the enterprise, “We’re trying to be good neighbors.” This sentiment was reiterated by Glenn as he commended the group for their work on the surrounding pasture land, “They did a great job.”

Halen Vrana shared his reason for showing up as he and friend Landon Norman picked up garbage, “We want to help the community”.

“We try to clean up everybody else’s first,” said Glenn as he explained that the north side of the landfill, which belongs to the town, will be cleaned at a later date.

The town has installed high netting along the south east side of the open area of the expansion and hope to see a decrease in this flying waste from this and other efforts.

The mayor had contacted the Moorcroft Mat Masters asking the club if they would like to help out the municipality with this clean up activity Glenn remarked that council has done so before: “Several times we’ve had different clubs, wrestling and football do it
