Crook County Annual Spelling Bee

Moorcroft Elementary Parent Action Committee hosted the Annual Crook County District Spelling Bee Thursday, February 16 at the Moorcroft Secondary School auditorium. The participants performed before a full house.

Students who had been recognized as the top spellers in their classroom spelling bees at Moorcroft Elementary School during January advanced to the Crook County District Spelling Bee. These kids were then separated into two divisions.

24 students competed in the first through third grade division and the winners were first place, Lincoln Townley, third grade; second place, Giovanni Fulciniti, second grade; and third place, Kevin Watson, third grade.

Of the 27 competitors in the fourth through sixth grade division, winners were first place, Bronson Sasse, sixth grade; second place, Ava Cantu, fifth grade; and third place, Ryland Johnson, fourth grade.

The top four winners will represent our district in the State Spelling Bee in Rock Springs on March 31, 2023.

"The Scripps National Spelling Bee is about much more than spelling, word origins and correct pronunciation. It's about inspiring confidence and a love of language that lasts a lifetime. This spelling bee is a tradition that began in 1925 with the vision of supporting eager and enthusiastic spellers," Peters shares the history of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

"Every year," she continues, "we watch in awe as spellers take the stage and spell their words confidently and calmly. We recognize the determined look in their eye or the nervous tilt of their head, and we are there cheering them on with every letter they say."
