Ag books for kids

Crook County Farm Bureau Federation annually sponsors the Ag Books for Kids contest for K-5th grade students. A book related to agriculture is paired with resources to learn about a specific ag topic.

The book selected this year, "Popcorn Country", tells the story of America's favorite snack and how popcorn is planted, grown, and harvested. Members of the Whitcomb FFA chapter read the book to the kindergarten classes. Students could then color a pre-printed page for the contest.

This year, Crook County had 236 entries from the contest grade levels and Moorcroft kindergarteners submitted 60 of those.

Kordell Watson was the second-place winner in the County Contest. He received prizes from the Crook County Farm Bureau Federation and all students who participated received microwave popcorn. Congratulations to all the students for their great work.

Thank you to Monica Castaneda, Moorcroft woods/agriculture teacher, for her willingness to promote the contest and gather the entries.

The Farm Bureau Federation is an organization of local farmers and ranchers who have a passion to promote and educate about agriculture. We believe the next generation should be informed about where their food comes from because the future of agriculture is important to us all.
