With council approval, Allison changed the cisterns from Farmers Coop to MG Oil two weeks ago. He says that the change incurs no added cost to the town as the three 1000 gallon containers are part of the agreement with the understanding...

  • Neighbor dispute costs Moorcroft

    Grace Moore|Sep 26, 2019

Approximately three weeks ago, the office and shop of Moorcroft business Glenn Construction lost water service, due, apparently, to a homeowner turning off the tap. Years ago, Glenn’s service was laid across the yard of a neighboring property, as had been done with many water pipes throughout town at the time. Within the water projects of the last several years, the councils involved have initiated corrections of these lines, including the costs in the project grants, saving the town tens of thousands of dollars overall. Glenn’s line was to be...

  • Second goat show even more popular

    Sarah Pridgeon|Sep 26, 2019

It wouldn’t be possible without support from the community, says Tanja Miller of Alpenthal’s Dairy Goats, who organized the Black Hills Dairy Goat Association’s Dairy Goat Show at the fairgrounds over the weekend. This was the second year Crook County hosted its own goat show and, says Miller, numbers were up considerably. “We were bigger this year than last year,” she says. “We had 240 goats and we have two rings, so we actually show 480 animals in less than 12 hours – on top of four showmanship classes.” As well as 40 exhibitors from...

Government needs to reunite savings bonds with rightful owners By Wyoming State Treasurer Curt Meier During my time as Treasurer, I have seen thousands of individuals across the State of Wyoming locate money being held by our Unclaimed Property Division. Some of these checks have been in the six-figure range, and the rightful owner may not have ever been paid if not for the Unified Unclaimed Property laws in our great state. I have seen first-hand how effective this program can be, yet our federal government doesn’t want to turn over nearly $...

  • Lady Wolves fight hard against Big Horn

    Katie Williams|Sep 26, 2019

he Moorcroft Lady Wolves started strong last Saturday against Big Horn, winning the first two sets, staying aggressive on offense and putting up a strong block. As the close match continued, Big Horn battled back and won the match in the fifth set. The scores were extremely close (26-24, 25-16, 23-25, 24-26, 11-15). I am so proud of how hard this team worked during this match; these players fought for every point. The very first point of the match, our starting libero, Tianne Fischbach was...

  • Windy weekend for golfers

    Arlie Hulm|Sep 26, 2019

All in all, it was a tough weekend for golf with very windy, chilly conditions, which makes it tough to play. We had a little of everything from highs to lows. Payton Timberman was one stroke off his personal best the first round while his teammates experienced the opposite. In the second round, Caden Connally stayed consistent and ended up splitting seventh and eighth, to receive all-state honors. The kids did a great job, they hung in there and stayed competitive. The athletes had a great time this fall and we’re looking forward to spring g...

  • "Barn yard" hydrants

    Grace Moore|Sep 26, 2019

Private hydrants or “barn yard” hydrants have been illegal for many years within town limits. There are, however, a number of these fire plugs remaining throughout the municipality belonging to private citizens. Like many of Moorcroft’s municipal laws, the town is still catching up on enforcement or removal of the ordinances as they come up. The reason for this ordinance, though, is safety, so the council chooses enforcement. These old hydrants have no backflow preventer, explained Public Works Director Cory Allison at Monday night’s council...

While researching these greats, one student came across a traveling exhibit of Genghis Khan in Bozeman, Montana featuring over 200 artifacts from the 13th century Mongolian Empire. Aside from controlling the largest land mass empire the world has ever seen, the Mongolians,...
