  • Concerns for local deer

    Grace Moore|Jan 26, 2023

Pine Haven's deer population is showing signs of illness this winter with the discovery of a yearling that had lain down and could no longer rise due to as as-yet unconfirmed malady. This forced Game Warden Mitchell Kern to put the animal out of its misery. A young buck in the same circumstances was later found by Public Works Director Sunny Schell. In a recent report given to council, Schell said, "[Kern] said to keep an eye out for dead deer around town for the next couple of months." With...

Thank You As we close our door to the Royal Neighbors of America (RNA), Keyhole Camp members 10761, Pine Haven and Moorcroft and draw the final curtain, we want to thank all those who have been so much help since our inception in 1999. If I were to set it all up as to whom Royal Neighbors are and what we do – it would be people helping people. We started by funds available from our Belle Fourche Camp in South Dakota and formed the Keyhole Camp, Moorcroft and Pine Haven. So much of our success is because of our merry Mary Hancock, now in the a... Full story

  • Clarification

    Jan 26, 2023

On page 7 of last week’s Moorcroft Leader, in the article “Bike raffle for new park…” clarification has been requested. The grant, of which the original source for the story spoke, has been abandoned by council. “We had the option to,” recreation board liaison Kristy Speed later explained, “[but] due to the stipulations, we chose not to do it.” The board had received $30,000 in their 2022/2023 budget to build this park and Sharon Coleman is raffling the bicycle and scooters under her own initiative to donate all proceeds to the recreation boar... Full story

  • Weekly update

    Ogden Driskill, Wyoming Senate President|Jan 26, 2023

As you may have seen on FOX News and other major media outlets, Wyoming experienced quite a week in the national news spotlight due to a resolution brought forward in the Senate. Senate Joint Resolution SJ0004 Phasing out new electric vehicle sales by 2035 pushes back against bans on new sales of cars with internal combustion engines in states like California and New York. Although it’s a bit of a tongue-in-cheek statement – and not an actual ban – I am pleased to see that this resolution struck a chord with the rest of the country. Such bans...

  • Lady Wolves beat Herders

    Dusty Petz|Jan 26, 2023

On Friday evening, the Lady Wolves traveled to Newcastle to take on the Dogies. The game was quick from the opening tip with Newcastle leading 12 to 5 after the first quarter. Newcastle stepped it up in the second and third quarters, holding the Wolves to single digits. The Lady Wolves found some ground in the fourth quarter while outscoring the Dogies, but Newcastle finished the game out with a 50 to 22 victory. We got off to a slow start and our shots weren’t falling. I thought our defense was good, but we had some offensive challenges t...

  • Wolves don't back down

    Nick Redden|Jan 26, 2023

The Wolves Boys basketball had two great contests this past weekend with Newcastle on Friday and Glenrock on Saturday. The boys JV came out a little slow against Newcastle, but made some gains in the second half, though not enough to pull out the victory. All of this is a learning experience for them and will be all year, but the gains I have seen are amazing. The varsity boys played four good quarters of basketball and pulled away in the end with a ten point victory. Everyone who got into the game dug deep and contributed to the victory,...
